Government of Alberta Water Availability Engagement
At the end of October, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) launched consultations to gather input on increasing water availability and improve the water management system in Alberta. The engagement encourages feedback from all stakeholders, and includes topics such as: measuring and reporting water use, water conservation, efficiency and productivity, water allocation and transfer and inter-basin. The existing priority and licence seniority system in Alberta—based on the first in time, first in right principle doesn’t appear to be considered within this consultation.
All feedback will be reviewed to inform potential policy changes in 2025 aimed at improving access and management of water in the province. Team Alberta Crops is working to provide collective input to the process.
Farmers are encouraged to participate in the engagement by completing the survey below or providing your concerns to Alberta Grains.
