Enhancing selection for malting quality in two-row and hulless barley

Benefits for barley farmers:
This project will increase the effectiveness of selection and release of two-row hulled malting varieties, as well as develop quality selection criteria for hulless malting lines within the FCDC hulless breeding programs.

Summary:
The objectives of this study are to increase the effectiveness of selection of two-row hulled malting varieties and to develop quality selection criteria for hulless malting lines within the Lacombe Field Crop Development Centre breeding program. This will include an expansion of Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) capability.
