The Advanced Management Trials (AMT) are a smallplot research program that evaluates how different wheat and barley varieties respond to fungicide applications in higher rainfall and disease risk regions of Alberta. The trials support more informed, economical and sustainable crop management decisions for wheat and barley growers across the province.
The AMT project is administered and funded by Alberta Grains, with additional financial support provided by SeCan, Syngenta, and Canterra Seeds.
The first year of Alberta Grains’ Advanced Management Trials (AMT) were conducted in 2025 with support from SeCan and Syngenta Canada, at six sites across the province:
Each location seeded four varieties of hard red spring wheat and four varieties of barley in a split-plot design. Each variety had treatments of a foliar fungicide at head timing and an unsprayed check.
All sites were successful in the 2025 growing season. Preliminary results were reviewed internally, and Alberta Grains will be sharing results after two years of data can be analyzed, in the winter of 2026/2027.
The AMTs will continue to be funded by Alberta Grains, with financial support from Syngenta Canada, SeCan and Canterra Seeds for the 2026 and 2027 crop years.
