Team Alberta Crops Voices Concern Over Federal Bill C-282

Team Alberta Crops joined forces with the Alberta Beef Producers to express concerns regarding Bill C-282, which if passed in Senate, would restrict Government of Canada negotiators from discussing supply-managed commodities (dairy, poultry, eggs) during international trade talks. The bill was passed by the House of Commons in June 2023 and is currently before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee for study.

Grain Growers of Canada appeared before the committee to reinforce the concerns of the over 90% of export-oriented farmers in Canada. Bill C-282 seeks to protect a select few farmers at the risk of securing beneficial trade deals for all of Canada.

Alberta wheat and barley farmers exported over $4.4 billion, underscoring the importance of access to global markets invaluable to the livelihood of our farmers.
