New Agronomy Demonstrations – New resources for local growers

In 2025, Alberta Grains is sponsoring two multi-year agronomy demonstration projects. The goal of the agronomy demonstration is to enhance local agronomy support and promote technology adoption. The agronomy demonstration takes a multi-faucet approach and will grow over the years.

One of the agronomy demonstrations is in collaboration with MacKenzie Applied Research Association, located in Fort Vermillion, AB. The theme is soil fertility and pH management in the Peace Region, especially on newly-opened farmland and/or variable fields. The first event will be a field demonstration, where farm-specific challenges and solutions will be showcased and discussed.

The other agronomy demonstration is in collaboration with Gateway Research Organization, located in Westlock, AB. The region has seen FHB outbreaks in the last decade. In response to it, the theme of the demo is integrated FHB management. The first-year field demonstration will showcase a combination of tools for FHB management.

The demo will be part of GRO’s Cut the Crop Tour, on August 6th, 2025.

The above field demonstrations are the first step in the overall agronomy demonstration project. Growers in the region will receive more agronomy resources through the winter meetings, webinars, peer groups, extension materials and more. The extension projects will also progress in the next few years to engage the needs of local farmers and integrate the findings of the most recent research efforts. A lot to look forward to!

We will provide updates on the agronomy extension demonstrations. Keep your eyes peeled for future events and resources!
