Reverse Agronomy Update, New AWC and AB Research Priorities, Extension RFP

Hello everyone,

There are three items in today’s Shop Talk:

  1. Registration for Reverse Agronomy Update opens today. Sign up here for the opportunity to learn more about commercial crop production and on-farm issues from three Alberta farmers. This virtual session will be held Thursday, March 17, 2021 from 9-12 noon. This is an opportunity for crop researchers to develop their understanding of commercial barley, canola, pulse and wheat production systems to heighten the relevance of grower-funded research projects for on-farm adoption.
  2. The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) and Alberta Barley updated their research priorities (please see the details linked). Details of these research priorities will be presented at a virtual meeting on Friday, March 4 from 9-10 am. If you are interested in attending, please email sstrydhorst@albertawheatbarley.com to be sent the Zoom meeting link. As researchers are developing LOIs for AWC and Alberta Barleys’ consideration, we strongly advise you to consider these priorities in your future wheat and barley research plans.
  3. AWC is re-envisioning investments in extension and demonstration due to an evolving industry need and tighter alignment of AWC’s research and extension initiatives. We are requesting proposals for field demonstrations to highlight the performance of popular and upcoming wheat varieties grown under the best agronomic management practices in various regions of Alberta. Details of the RFP can be found in the attached.
