Group 14 resistant kochia found in Alberta and Saskatchewan

Two grower-submitted kochia samples were confirmed by AAFC Lethbridge to have Group 14 PPO inhibitor resistance.

The Alberta kochia population was from an alfalfa field in 2023 in Forty Mile County. This population exhibited 63% resistance.

The Saskatchewan population was from a brown mustard field in the Rural Municipality of Newcombe in Saskatchewan. The sample was collected in 2021. It exhibited up to 87-fold resistance to saflufenacil and 121-fold resistance to carfentrazone. It had 9% survival rate after application of saflufenacil.
