I had a seed fungi test done: will Aspergillis spp. and Penicillium spp. results affect germination?

When you receive a fungal screen seed test report, you will see Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. results among other fungi. Both Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. are storage molds that can lead to mycotoxin development if grain is stored damp. In a scenario where seed is stored in a warm and damp condition, Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. infection levels will increase during storage. In most seeding situations, these two fungi will have no impact on germination. However, in the case that seed was stored damp and fungal test results indicate infection levels greater than 10% to 25% along with bin burnt seed andgermination rates of 80% to 90% or lower, it is possible that Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. can impact germination. A new seed lot or seed treatment with Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. on the label could be considered.
