Introduction to June 2021

By Jeremy Boychyn (M.Sc)(P.Ag), Agronomy Research Extension Specialist

Welcome to the June! Crops in the province are progressing quickly, and Mother Nature continues to throw various challenges at Alberta farmers. Farmers in the province have encountered hail and a lack of rainfall in some areas while others have received too much rainfall in a short amount of time.  But hey - it wouldn't be Alberta without having Mother Nature throw everything but the kitchen sink at us.

As we head past herbicide timing and into stem elongation, foliar disease becomes an important subject for scouting. In this edition of the newsletter, we outline details around flag leaf versus head timing fungicide, stripe rust pathways, and share some important information regarding bacterial leaf streak.

Good luck to everyone as we continue through the 2021 growing season.
