Keep it clean – Pre-harvest glyphosate staging for cereals
With harvest well underway across the province, it is important to consider residue levels in the grain and make sure it is marketable. Pay attention to the pre-harvest interval (PHI) of chemicals. Find out how many days you need to leave between pesticide application and cutting. Before using glyphosate as a pre-harvest herbicide, check the grains and make sure the least mature kernels are less than 30% grain moisture, or hard dough stage. This will prevent the glyphosate from translocating into the grains and causing unacceptable residue levels.
Staging for pre-harvest glyphosate is especially important in the parts of the province, where rain lead to late tillers and multi-stage crops. Before applying, make sure the late tillers have reached hard dough stage and have less than 30% moisture.
