Midge tolerant stewardship grower survey
Currently, all midge tolerant wheat varieties share one and only midge-tolerance gene. Without proper stewardship, midge tolerance could break down within 10 years. Limiting the use of farm-saved seed to one generation past certified seed is an important step in protecting the midge tolerance gene.
For more information about breeding for midge tolerance, refuge, and Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Program, check out this video from our Growing Smarter video series. The video features Dr. Harpinder Randhawa, research scientist and breeder with AAFC Lethbridge.
If you have grown midge tolerant wheat, take a few minutes to fill out the Midge Tolerant Wheat Grower Survey. The data collected is used by the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition to manage the Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Program.
