Establishing a crop with high yield potential and quality requires sowing seed at ideal rates. The Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions have developed a seeding rate calculator to help farmers determine appropriate seeding rates for their wheat and barley crops.

It is important to note that this new calculator differs from other seeding rate calculators. Instead of targeting plants/ft², this calculator targets seeds/ft². Therefore, emergence mortality is not included in the calculation. The desired seeding rate indicates the number of seeds sown. Farmers should use desired seeding rates that account for expected emergence mortality.
