Ag Plastics Survey

The Alberta Government is seeking input on making the province-wide grain bag and twine recycling program permanent. The pilot has grown to 160 sites, recycling over 4,000 tonnes in five years and a user-pay model under extended producer responsibility legislation is being considered.

The government is exploring a phased implementation that would begin in January 2028, with additional phases in 2030 and 2032, ensuring 80% of farms and ranches are within 80 km of a collection site. Stakeholders are asked for input on program support, costs, included products, timelines, recovery targets, and access standards.

Alberta Grains will submit a written response and encourages producers to participate in the survey by September 12, 2025.
