Right to Repair: Tell us what you think before October 31
On November 7, 2024, Bills C-244 and C-294 received royal assent—a win for farmers. These Copyright Act changes let farmers and third parties bypass certain technological protection measures to diagnose, maintain and repair equipment without infringing copyright.
Alberta Grains has long pushed for these amendments to ensure timely repairs during seeding and harvest. Bill C-294 also enhances interoperability, making it easier for equipment, software and data to work together.
Team Alberta Crops, the Intensive Livestock Working Group and the Farmers Advocate Office are surveying producers on how right-to-repair can benefit you—share your input by October 31, 2025.
